Family:  Picidae.  Endemic.

Five subspecies of Dryocopus lineatus are currently recognized with two subspecies being found in Mexico. The scapularis subspecies is found in coastal regions in western Mexico south of Sonora and the similis subspecies is found along the eastern coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
